The Rutgers University Debate Union (RUDU) won the novice division of the second George Washington University tournament of the year. While the varsity squad didn’t make their best showing, the novices had a great performance.

Here’s the list of awards RUDU took home from GW:
Ashley Novak & Gordon Morrisette – Novice Champions [winning novice finals] Adam Bomeisl & Nisha Kumar – 10th Novice Team
Ashely Novak – 1st Novice Speaker
Gordon Morrisette – 4th Novice Speaker

With the top novice speaker performance, Ashley drew within two points of the top ranking for the coveted Novice of the Year (NOTY) award. Meanwhile, Gordon is hovering just a few points out of the top ten.

This weekend will be the first of back-to-back tournaments in New Jersey – the only two such scheduled matches in the entire season. This weekend will be the Princeton tournament, where the nation’s tenth-ranked team plays host to all other schools, including fourth-ranked Rutgers. Then it’s Rutgers’ turn, closing out February, to host a tournament. Keep checking this blog for updates about that tournament as it draws near.
