Rutgers debaters take a break from both rounds and subzero temperatures. Left to right: Farhan Ali, Storey Clayton, Dave Reiss, Kyle Bomeisl, Ashley Novak, Bhargavi Sriram, and Gordon Morrisette.

Temperatures were below zero in Lewiston, Maine this past weekend, site of the Bates College Parliamentary Debate Tournament. But the Rutgers University Debate Union (RUDU) continued its red-hot winning ways with breaks to the varsity and novice outrounds.

Here’s what RUDU accomplished in the icy climes of southern Maine:
David Reiss & Kyle Bomeisl – 5th Team
David Reiss – 7th Speaker
Ashley Novak & Gordon Morrisette – 2nd Novice Team
Ashley Novak – 9th Novice Speaker

The break was the 8th this year for Dave & Kyle, though they should have broken at a 9th tournament as well and were kept out by a tabulation error (at MIT). Ashley & Gordon, meanwhile, continued to establish themselves as the best novice team on the circuit.

This weekend will feature the highly prestigious North American Parliamentary Debate Championships, to be held this year in New York City. Rutgers will be sending its top four teams.
