Keating Hall, Fordham University's iconic building, hosts the annual debate tournament.

The Rutgers University Debate Union (RUDU) maintained its 9th place national ranking with a flurry of winning finishes at Fordham University this weekend, including three of the top ten novice speaker awards at the large tournament. NOTY contenders Kurt Falk & Quinn Maingi were joined by first-time novice-award-winner Deepta Janardhan, who became the seventh Rutgers novice to win a novice speaker award this year.

Unfortunately a tabulation error appears to have kept Maingi & Falk out of the novice semifinal rounds, where their 3-2 record and high speaking should have made them the third seed. They dropped a varsity bubble round, making them one of four Rutgers teams who made it to varsity bubble rounds this weekend, despite the ultimate lack of varsity breaks.

Here’s the official results, including that possible mistab:
Quinn Maingi & Kurt Falk – Incorrectly Denied Novice Semifinal Break by Tabulation Error
Quinn Maingi – 7th Novice Speaker
Kurt Falk – 8th Novice Speaker
Deepta Janardhan – 10th Novice Speaker

RUDU is taking a break for Thanksgiving along with the rest of the American Parliamentary Debate Association (APDA), but will be back in action for the first weekend in December before closing the first half of the season. A public debate with Trenton Central High School in Trenton is also scheduled for December 15th.
